Software and hardware, under one roof

Most small companies pick a lane early and stay in it forever, because specializing is safer and easier to market. Pabloch Tech was built the other way around. The problems worth solving don't always come in a software-shaped box. Sometimes the right answer is an app that runs on a computer someone already owns. Sometimes it's a physical device that has to exist in the real world to do its job at all. Being a software-and-hardware company means we're not stuck reaching for the same tool every time, and it means the people building each side of the business actually understand both, instead of treating hardware as somebody else's problem or software as an afterthought bolted onto a product that was designed without it in mind.

Renewal Tracker: where it started

Renewal Tracker is Pabloch Tech's current flagship software product, and it came from a genuinely ordinary problem: subscriptions, insurance policies, vehicle registrations, and a dozen other things with due dates, scattered across different inboxes, with no single place to see what's actually coming up. A lot of subscription tracker apps solve part of that by scanning your bank statements and charging you a monthly fee to do it, which struck us as backwards: paying an ongoing fee to keep tabs on your other ongoing fees. So Renewal Tracker was built the opposite way. You add what you want tracked yourself, nothing ever touches your bank account, it's free for up to five items, and if you need more than that, it's a single $20 payment, once, for as long as you use it. No subscription to manage your subscriptions.

It runs as a real desktop app on Windows and macOS rather than a phone-first tool, because a lot of the renewals that matter most, insurance paperwork, vehicle registration, visa and passport deadlines, are things people tend to deal with at a desk anyway, and a native app can quietly watch the calendar and fire a tray notification or a daily email without needing to be the center of attention.

How we think about building things

A few principles show up across everything Pabloch Tech makes, not just Renewal Tracker. Charge once for something when a subscription isn't actually justified by ongoing cost, rather than defaulting to recurring billing because it's the easier business model. Keep the amount of user data we touch as small as it can possibly be. If a feature doesn't need access to something sensitive, it doesn't get access to it, which is why Renewal Tracker never asks for bank or card details just to track a due date. And build for the platform people are actually going to use the tool on, instead of assuming everything belongs on a phone.

None of this is dressed up as some grand mission statement. It's closer to a set of defaults we keep coming back to, because they've held up across more than one project.
